EA Plans to Reboot Star Wars, Mass Effect, Mirror’s Edge at E3 2015
Electronic Arts always has a plethora of grade-A titles and one of the biggest titles to expect from EA on the show floor has to be Star Wars Battlefront. A reimagining of the two classic third person shooters that appeared on the PS2, Battlefront should look to deliver sci-fi action while also utilizing the powerful Frostbite engine. The next installment in the Battlefront series has gone through a lot of rough spots even being cancelled at one point, but DICE are applying all their knowledge from the Battlefield series into giving Star Wars Battlefront new life.
Speaking of Star Wars, another game that may make an, albeit, smaller appearance is that of Star Wars the Old Republic. Hints have been appearing that SWTOR will be receiving another expansion and it would be a surprise if it was not represented at E3. This expansion should be very welcome and a sign of continued support of one of the more popular MMOs. The expansion has been hinted that it will involve all new story content and companions for players although no word on a level cap increase or end game content so far. Because Bioware is known for outstanding story-telling and dialogue, players should look forward to this new content.
Another big title that had been rumored for a long time is the reboot to Mirrors Edges, the first-person parkour game which came out back in 2008. The reboot, which is titled, Mirrors Edge: Catalyst, will definitely be on the show floor and, most likely, a main event due to the following it has from its unique gameplay and art style.
EA of course has a bevy of sports titles which are set to come out this year and should include such big hits as NHL16 , NBA Live 16, FIFA 16 and the famous Madden. Madden NFL 16 is looking to come with a wealth of features focusing on QB mechanics and a catch and pass-defend system looking to give more flexible controls to the play.
Finally a game that was hinted and confirmed to be in development last year, the next Mass Effect title may make an appearance this year for EA. While not a lot of details on the project have been released, it has been said that exploration will be coming back in a big way by bringing back the Mako, the land buggy from the original.
Mass Effect 4, as it is being called currently, is set to take place far in the future with a new protagonist and that the previous games wont have much of an effect (ha puns) on this sequel. This game could be a huge drop for EA as well as Bioware as they would have two big titles front and center.
